Join in the conversation

Would you like to join in the conversation about learning differently at The University of Sheffield?

If you are a student currently studying at the UoS then we would like to invite you to contribute.

This is how it works:

Each month or so we will post students' reflections upon their experiences of life and study with dyslexia or specific learning differences.  These reflections will be organised according to different themes. To see the themes currently available, please see the tab 'themes' on the main page. If you would like to suggest a theme, please email learningdifferently@sheffield.ac.uk .

The reflections can take different forms:

- written pieces (around 500 words or so)
- drawings, or a series of drawings
- audio recordings
- anything else - please suggest!

Variety is the key here!  Your work can be a funny story, a comic strip of something you experienced, a drawing of some aspect of life with an SpLD label, a more 'academic' written piece, a series of photos, a poem... so don't feel you have to conform to a particular style or that you have to mimic pieces posted previously.

If you would like to contribute something, please send it by email to learningdifferently@sheffield.ac.uk .

The team here will look at your work and will get back to you to let you know if and when it might appear on the blog, and to make any suggestions for changes. We will try to get back to you within 3 weeks, but please give us a bit of leeway.

Make sure it has a title, and a short 'blurb' outline of what the piece is a reflection upon.

If you would like to remain anonymous, that is absolutely fine.  We will always double check with you if you would prefer not to have your name mentioned.

If you include anybody else in your reflective piece (particularly if you record them in some way) we will need to ask their permission for their input to be published on the blog.

Please remember - this blog may be viewed by anyone at all, from within and outside the University, so before you create your piece, ask yourself whether you feel comfortable with it being out there in the world. Take care to remove any personal information that you would prefer not to share.

Comments upon posts will be very carefully moderated, and no comments will be permitted if they are in any way derisory, or intended to intimidate.

Any questions - do get in touch - learningdifferently@sheffield.ac.uk

We look forward to hearing from you.

ps - If you are an ex-student of the UoS or staff member at the UoS, and you feel you would like to contribute, we would love to hear from you, too.
